This is my 1902 Singer 29-4 patcher. I spotted this machine in July of 2023. At first glance I was surprised at what good condition this machine was in. Then I realized that it had been repainted and "restored". I don't normally buy machines that have been repainted but this one was done really well and I couldn't pass it up for the price. Below are the pictures from the FB Marketplace ad.
When I got the machine home, I realized that although this machine looked really nice the previous owner got a little overzealous with the paint. There was paint in places that paint shouldn't be and that was keeping the machine from operating the way it should. It obviously was only a display piece after it was painted. So, I took it all apart and removed the paint from all the places that paint doesn't belong. After reassembly, I put a belt on it and sure enough every moved the way it was meant to move. Unfortunately, it wouldn't sew! After further investigation, I discovered that the bobbin case had a crack in it. After ordering a new bobbin case.......it sews wonderfully! I really love the sound of these machines. Below are pics from when I brought the machine home and at the end of the pictures is a video of the machine sewing through several layers of canvas. It's such a fun machine to sew with!
