Here we have a 1951 blackside centennial badged Singer 128 with a crinkle (Godzilla) finish in a bentwood case. The table is a No. 311 card table. I found the table in the town next to mine. It literally took me 3 minutes to drive to meet the owners to purchase the machine. This machine was in really nice condition and didn't really need any repairs.....just a light cleaning. The table was bought from a local gentlemen who had previously sold the machine (which happened to be a blackside Singer 99). Singer 128's in this configuration are very common but the No. 311 tables are not common. In my 9 years of collecting I've only seen a handfull of them. The other Singer card tables are much more common. I also own a Featherweight card table, a 301 short bed card table, and a 301 long bed card table......but we can talk about those in a future post. Since the bentwood base for a 128 is shorter than a 99 bentwood base, these tables were supplied with 3/4" wood risers that would lift the 128 base up to be even with the table top. This was also the case with the No. 301 combination tables. This allowed the tables to be compatible with both 128 and 99 bentwood bases. Enjoy the pictures below!
I saw a black side Singer 128 at a thrift store while traveling last month, but I've never seen a table that would hold a 128 or 99, only the Featherweight table and I've seen the short bed and long bed 301 tables.
ReplyDeleteNow you can keep an eye out for a No. 311 table! One way to quickly identify one is the darker circles on the table top. I think there are some Featherweight tables that also have darker circles but I believe the featherweight table will have the notch in the table top to lift the bed extension while the No. 311 table will not.
