Late 1880's Standard Slim Pillar Rotary Sewing Machine in a Twin Pillar Cabinet

In June I acquired this Standard Rotary (Slim Pillar) sewing machine.  It was actually posted on FB Marketplace for quite a while with no takers.  The machine was located in Williamsport, PA so even I hesitated to travel all that way (4 hrs) to purchase this machine.  But as time when on I convinced myself to make the trip as I had never seen a Standard in a twin pillar cabinet.  You all know that I'm a sucker for twin pillar cabinets.  From my understanding the machine is an early example of the Standard Rotary and is stamped with the serial number 65851.  The last patent date on the bobbin plate cover is 1887 so the machine can't be any older than that date.

The main reason I bought this machine/cabinet was the twin pillar cabinet.  Standard Rotary machines are pretty common and you see them for sale all the time.  But this cabinet is something special.  The cabinet made of tiger oak. Unfortunately, as was very common back in the day, someone had refinished the cabinet which darkened it's overall appearance.  You could tell it was refinished as they did a sloppy job and there were drips evident in the finish.  You can see the original lighter finish on the inside of the doors.  Notice the color difference between the front of the doors compared to the inside of the doors.  Knowing that it was already refinished, I couldn't leave it as is..... so I've started the refinishing process.  So far I've stripped the the finish from the cabinet except for the inside of the cabinet doors as I plan is to match that original finish.  I don't plan to finish until spring time but will update this post when I finish.

The machine itself is not in very good shape.  While I'm working on the cabinet I'm going to look for a nicer machine of the same era to compliment the cabinet.

Below are pictures of the machine/cabinet that were taken the day I brough them home.  Enjoy!  If someone has seen another Standard twin pillar cabinet please let me know!
